Favorites listing on left side of screen

I am an advanced user, but I can't find the path to fix this situation.

My backup computer was used extensively by visiting family this week, and
someone must have killed the normal display of the favorites listings at the
left side of the screen. Of course, I can access the favorites by clicking
on "Favorites" in the menu items, and temporarily bring up that listing.

Where is there a setting that will put the favorites display back onto the
left side of the screen? I've searched all over, but can't spot it.
