Gigabyte and Asus. They are usually highly rated. Though I've also had
good experience with the less expensive Biostar.

Thanks, got a GA-EP43-UD3L at Amazon for $80 US total. If it is
within specs, it should last me for a while.

Surprised to see that the majority of systems are still LGA775. If
I had gone with AMD the last time, I probably would have needed a
new socket type by now.

"For such a wonderful software, how much it costs? Impossible!
It’s free! Now, if you buy a Gigabyte’s motherboard, you could
find this amazing software in the attached driver CD. But please
remember, connected to internet at first, then you could have a
internet BIOS update from your Gigabyte @BIOS."

After more reading, most of their stuff is IMO very well written.

Wondering why a USB keyboard is Disabled by default.

....
(Damned near "every" manufacturer got caught in the "bad caps"
thing)

Maybe, but I would not discount a maker promoting good capacitors.
Of all the circuit components on a MB, capacitors are the most
phisical and therefore probably most likely to fail.

Amazon's "Super Saver Shipping" was taking forever. That shipping
method is like a pre-order, except that they charge your card
immediately, sometimes long before they ship the item. So I canceled
the order. I might go for a Gigabyte GA-EP43T-UD3L DDR3 1600
mainboard/motherboard, starting with 2GB of RAM, probably from
Newegg. I hope the jump from DDR2 800 to DDR3 1600 is impressive as
it sounds.

I bought a Biostar 965PT in November of 2006 to run an E6400. The last
BIOS update was in May of 2007. There is no support for 45 nM CPUs.
There was never official support for quad core CPUs.

Here is the current CPU support list for the comparable Asus P5B:
http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5B

At this time, CPU support on a Socket 775 board may be moot, but this
will always stick in my mind.

To it's credit, the 965PT board is still running the 65 nM E6400 at 3.2 GHz
with 2.8xx volts. Although the CPU was stable at 3.4 GHz with a little more
voltage, I prefer the lower setting. I ran my Q6600 in it for a while at 3 GHz,
but after a while, it became unstable and I had to slow it down. The Q6600
is now running happily at 3 GHz in my wife's computer on a Gigabyte
G31M-ES2L board.
