faulting module mso.dll

Ross

I work in the IT department. One of my customers has a
problem with Excel 2002 crashing. The crash happens when
the program is closed.

Error: Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs
to close - please
tell Microsoft about this problem etc etc.

Application log shows error:
Faulting application excel.exe, version 10.0.4302.0,
faulting module mso.dll, version 10.0.4219.0, fault
address 0x000e0fc0.

Any ideas on a fix, checked Technet and Google.com

I have the same problem but mine happens when trying to open excel. The application will not open at all. I tried a full reinstall but it made no difference. Any advice or help would be great.

Hi Kirtsy,

Here's a last-ditch thing you can try. I haven't seen this solution
associated with the error you describe, but it certainly won't hurt. Use
Windows Explorer to search for all files on your hard drive with a .XLB
extension. Delete any that you find. Note that this may be a hidden file, so
you'll need to set Explorer to show hidden files before searching. Excel
uses these files to store information about toolbars, but they frequently
become corrupt and cause problems like this. Excel will create new versions
of the .XLB files it needs as soon as it starts up. Note that you will lose
any toolbar customizations that you might have made. Let me know how it
works.

Try replacing the MSO.DLL file with one from a machine that is not experiencing this issue. I did this on a machine I was having problems with. The issue appeared to be resolved for me.
