Hi,

Expand a new copy of shdocvw.dll. Start/run msconfig, click on "expand file"
(general tab)

File to expand: shdocvw.dll
From: X:\I386
To: C:\Windows\system32

Where X is whatever letter is assigned your CD drive (you need your WinXP CD
for this), change it accordingly. If your system was preinstalled, you may
find this instead on the hard drive under C:\Windows\I386. If so, change the
"from" line accordingly. This assumes a default installation to C:\Windows.
If your installation is in a different folder, such as C:\Winnt, change the
"To" path accordingly. Reboot when finished.

Rick, your reply on this problem intrigues me .. This I386 stuff ...

I purchased a Dell with Windows XP Home (OEM) and upgraded to XP Pro. My I386 file is in C:/ and has 9,115 files and 931meg while the I386 file on the WinXP Pro CD contains only 6415 files and totals 460meg.

My friend upgraded Win Me to XP Pro and does not have an I386 file on his C:/ drive, but does have 4 - I386 files scattered in the Windows folder, but the total number of files are small in comparison to these monsters on my drive..

Would you be kind enough to give me some kind of opinion as to what is going on before I have to borrow your "Nutcase" handle.

TIA

Hi,

<lol> Your hard drive copy is from Dell, and likely includes their
applications as well as the basic OS system file set. At this point, you
should rely on the Upgrade CD for system files. As to your friend, I'd
randomly guess that he has reinstalled a couple of times?
