Fatal Execution Error in Windows Update

N

Nick Cellino

I'm encountering a problem with Microsoft Windows Update. The search
function recommends the following critical updates but they won't install:

NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3, English Version
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1

For both updates I encounter the Fatal Execution Error (0X7926fcd8). This
failure has occurred many times. What should I do?

Your best bet is to download the relevant files and install them offline. Once this is done, go back online and see if there are anymore updates for your system.

Hope this helps.

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.

The catroot2 rename is the most common fix.

.. Open a CMD.EXE window.

.. Type the following commands:

net stop cryptsvc
ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2
net start cryptsvc

Did you try some of the other update solutions?

I, too, am having this issue. I have tried all the suggested fixes
listed previously and many others. I have even re-installed the
microsoft .NET framework 1.1. Nothing I have tried will work. I can't
even repair my office 2003 from the disk. Does anyone have any ideas on
what is even causing this?

Now I know why you just post numbers of supposed hotfixes and not real
links, because they are bogus fixes. This KB has nothing to do with the
posters problem. You don't want the scrutiny.
