I have replaced OEM hardrive. Followed Maxtor
installation instructions carefully/correctly. IDE
controller and hardrive correctly recognized/formated.
When loading Compaq restore CD w/Windows XP, at prompt to
partition hard drive get "fatal exception OD has occurred
at 0117:00007EIF". Anyone know that particular "fatal
exception" is?

Normally, a "Restore CD" will only install properly with the same make
and model of hard drive as was originally installed. Also, "Restore CDs"
do not allow any custom partitioning during installation. You probably
will need to purchase a conventional version of Windows XP if your new
drive is not identical to the original and wish to custom partition it.

You should contact Compaq Support regarding your installation issue.
