Hello! I hope someone can help with this.

I'm upgrading fr: ME to home XP. All was fine until the installation part. I
got this FATAL Error Message forcing me to exit.

The Error message was "Error SXS.DLL Syntax error in manifest or policy file
C:\$WIN_NT$.~LS\I386\ASMS\7000\MSFT\WINDOWS\MSWINCRT\MSWINCRT.MAN on line 0

Error Installation Failed:
C:\$WIN_NT$.~LS\I386\ASMS
Error message: Manifest Parse Error: AN invailid charater was found in text
content

Fatal Error
One fo the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be
installed.
Manifest Parse Error: An Invalid Character was found in text content.

What does this mean and what do I do about it? Thank YOU!!
BTW, I bought the package at a local nationwide store chain.

Hi Jasper

Did you receive any response to your question? I have gotten the similar
error while installing Win XP (except that I had 6000 after \asms\ and line
"4". Did you manage to install and does it run OK?

Thanks mate

hi Stan!

The problem was with the actual disk!! Either it was scratched or missing a
block of information. I don't know for certain, but this product was on sale
at Staples and they didn't seem surprised when I brought it back.
I took it back to them and they replaced it, hassle free. Finally, with the
new disk, it loaded with no problems at all. Lesson learned the hard way.

I hope this helps you!
