Reinstall from gateway os win xp home cd. This is the first time to use this
CD straight from the package so it should be good and clean. Encountered a
few error messages then FATAL Error fffffe0b "The signature for windows xp
home edition upgrade is invalid. The error code is fffffe0b. The system
cannot find message text for message number 0xfffffe0b in the message file
for syssetup.dll"
Does anyone know that this error is ?
I want to do a reinstall because I have been advised that full install will
destroy the user data on the hard drive.
This gateway desktop has been running successfully with win xp home since
aug 2002. Some intermittent problems with word, excel and power point in the
past week. On sunday decided to upgrade to win xp sp2. It worked ok for a
while, now it will not boot. It gives a screen with boot choices: Safe
Mode, safe mode without networking, etc yet which ever option is selected it
returns to the same screen with the same choices.
When I boot from the CD and try the straight xp os Repair option from the
recovery console it requires an administrator password which is not known to
anyone, hence plan B to do the reinstallation.
Any utility I can use to copy user data from the C drive to the second
installed hard drive ? If the user data can be copied then a clean install
would be the next step.
Thanks
