fat16 partition missing?

Dear all,

I used fdisk to partition my CF card into two partitions.

Again, i used Foramt c:\ /s and bootprep to create XPe boot partition.

Now, when I booted from the first partition (c:) in XPe, XPe could not find
the second
FAT16 partition(d:).

Can anyone know how to find this FAT16 partition? What are the components
that are needed in XPe to recgonise FAT16 partition.

regards,

maverick

maverick,

Use "FAT" component from "Software : System : System Services : Base".
Also include "FAT Format" from "Software : System : Storage & File Systems :
Applications". Resolve its dependencies (you will need "Primitive: Ufat"
component). "FAT Format/Tools" from the same category may also be helpful to
you at runtime.

Hi
If KMs suggestions doesn't help ...
This could also be the "Removable Media" problem.

If the CF is a "removable media" (normally default state), DOS can
create and see several partitions. XP can only see the first partition.
(I think Microsoft calls this a feature, not a bug).
You must convert it to a "Non Removable Media". There are lots of
discussions in this newsgroup how this is done.
You can use XP Device Manager to get information about this.
Normally you must request to get a special utility from the CF supplier.

Lasee,

I agree with your conclusion about removable mediums. I have played with
this feature yesterday for a very long time.

Interesting is that Disk Manager can see all partitions, but XPe can use
only first entry from MBR block.
I have played with changing order of partitions in MBR itself, and result
was always the same, only first entry is used.
So XPe drivers can access an position on disk, but they just don't want to
use more that one partition entry.

(I think Microsoft calls this a feature, not a bug). Where did you see that
they call it a feature?
I was unable to find direct answer to this that is you have valid MBR
structure on removable medium that you can use only one partition.

BTW: OS and EWF can boot and work on removable medium.

Regards,
Slobodan

But how to find the utility? What's the name? I looked through the SanDisk's
web site and got nothing.
