Hi,
Just to share with you. In early Nov. I posted a question for why it takes
so long for shutting down my XP SP2 (and all updates installed) notebook.
It has been like this for a long while, and the strange thing is I have two
accounts in this notebook and it only happens to one of them (the primary
one) while the other is much faster.
It also happens to this notebook and other desktops that I use do not have
the same "problem".
The slow shut-down process even happened after I upgraded to 1GM of memory,
and despite the fact for I disabled almost all non-essential startup
services or applications.
I tried some suggested solutions but unfortunately, none of those really
make any differences.
PS: I regularly cleaned up temp files and so on.
Well the good thing is that I finally found the solution which works very
well from MS KB although it was not my initial intension to find this
solution.
I was looking for Even ID: 1517 that I found and I noticed that I also met
the 4th symptom - take a long time especially at Saving Settings...
So I downloaded and installed the utility and ever since then, I have a
"super fast" computer again especially during shut down process.

Good luck
