"windows shutting down" ABNORMALLY SLOW

Hi,

My windows, while shutting down takes unusually long time
to shut down. About 2-3 months back it used to shut down
very fast. The amount of the hard disk space used up was
the same 2-3 months as it is now!!!........I do not seem
to understand what has happened to my computer!!!.....Is
the computer "sick"?........

I shall be grateful if someone can suggest a solution to
this problem.

What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not
earlier than 2002 and using updated virus definitions) show?
