What version of Acrobat Reader are you using? The latest just released is
8.1

But, I've noticed with each Acrobat Reader release it just gets
s-l-o-w-e-r. I, too, would like to locate a fast pdf viewer--perhaps
a lite version without all the bells-and-whistles that will run well
on a vintage Win2000 machine. All I need is to read small
hardware/software manuals.

Foxit Reader is liked by many.

I have found that PDF Viewer from Visagesoft
fills the bill quite adequately.
am using it currently on Vista Ultimate 64.
also on XP Pro 64.

I have had no problem with version 8 of Acrobat Reader...quite
fast and far better than the prior versions. It is large but my
Amd Athlon is fast enough to handle it with ease. Haven't tried
the latest version tho'.

I also have FoxIt Reader it is free and works well.

The thing that makes it fast is that it loads part of its program
during system start up, which, in my opinion is stealing ram that I
could use for something else. I can go days... weeks, without needing
to view a pdf, so having it partially loaded in memory is a waste of
memory as far as I'm concerned. I use Foxit, and am quite happy with
its performance.

Although I have kept Adobe Reader 7.0 as default, I use Foxit
occasionally, and have found it much faster.
I found today, that Foxit wouldn't open Internet links in a pdf file
whn I click on them. I wonder whether it is because it is not the
derault pdf reader.

Since the heads up, I have been using Foxit. The speed improvments are
noticable

However, it opens a new window/version of its self everytime you
click on a pdf - any way of changin this?

I have been using Foxit on and off for some time now, but have
retained Adobe Reader 7.0 as the default program for pdf files. Foxit
is certainly much faster, and apparently uses much less memory.
Today, I noticed that Foxit wouldn't open internet links in pdf files
when I click on them. Is it because it is not the default pdf reader?
