fast audio playback

All audio (MP3, direct from CD, WMA) is played at a fast playback on all audio players (windows media player, and iTunes tried). Compaq computer, using Windows 2000 with an Intel audio card. Does anyone know how to fix this problem. Or what sub-program to configure to stop this. Thank you.

Brian:

Are you sure its a true Intel Audio card not SoundMax ?

I have seen this happen where the TRUE audio embedded on motherboard was SoundMax but when
Intel chip-set drivers were installed, the audio changed to Intel drivers. Everthing
looked goo but, adio was sped up to sound like the chipmunks. Once the Intel audio drivers
were removed and replaced with SoundMax drivers, the audio was corrrect again. The
platforms in question were Dell GX240 and GX400.
