Failure to boot up the Windows

I suddenly failed to boot up the Windows XP Pro. I get to black DOS-like
screen giving options like start-up in Safe Mode, Normally, Last Good
Config, etc. If I choose any option, Windows XP start up screen comes on,
then computer manufacturer screen, then won't
start up beyond that and returns to the DOS-like screen. A never-ending
loop always back to this screen.

I tried a number of methods suggested in this group without success and
eventually, I need to run the recovery disk come with the notebook pc. It
was a very painful and time consuming experience. Can someone advise me any
preventive actions I need to do in case I have such bad luck again.

Thanks,

Ray

Ray,

I have the same problem this morning when I tried to
reboot after SP2 install. Has anyone given you insight on
how to fix this problem short or reinstall?

Thanks in advance,
cbd
