fails to install

I am currently running Windows XP Pro and are trying to install Windows Vista
Ultimate. First I ran the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor. I comes back with
no issues in the system details. In devices it only comes back with that I
need to upgrade the drivers for my sound card and web cam. In programs it is
only the programs for the mouse and keyboard (IntelliType Pro) that needs to
be updated.

The installation runs fine until the very end where it is finalizing the
installation, it goes to 64%, then reboots, goes to blue screen, then come
back with the information: Failed to install, reinstalling previous version.

What can I do to fix this problem?

Hi KDahl,

If you follow the instructions in my post 'Clean Install Windows Vista Using
Upgrade Media' also in this newsgroup (dated 9/21/2007), you should be able
to solve your problem. You will, of course, need to install drivers for any
hardware devices that aren't included on the Vista disk - these can be
obtained directly from the hardware manufacturer. In fact, I would recommend
that you did a check for new drivers for all your hardware on your machine as
new ones are being developed all the time. Just don't get drivers from
Microsoft for hardware other than for hardware manufactured by Microsoft.
