Failed .NET Framework Install

Hi,

I've several unsuccessful attempts to install the 1.1 Framework on an XP SP2
(with non-essential servives stopped, firewall disabled, virus checker
disabled, etc). The end result is always an error at the end of the process:-
'Error 1937. An error occurred during the installation of assembly
'System.Design,Version="1.0.5000.0",PublicKeyToken="b03f5f7f11d50a3a",Culture="neutral",FileVersion="1.1.4322.573".
The signature or catalog could not be verified or is not valid. HRESULT:
0x80131045.'
It suggests a security problem, but the dotnetfx.exe has come straight off
the microsoft site.
Any help would be much appreciated -it'd be really useful to get VS.NET
installed.
Cheers,

Keith

FYI... Version 1.0.5000.0 sound like a Mono assembly (www.go-mono.com), not
Microsoft .NET. As to why the .NET Framework would produce this error I
don't know.

I have the exact same problem, down to the details in the error message
(error about System.Design) and I've had this on 3 different versions of
Windows XP now. I'm running out of ideas to fix this....

If anyone knows more about this I'm all ears.

Thanks,
