After many tests I have the messsage "corrupt master file
table". Norton Utilities won't fix because it says can't
fix NTFS format. Any suggestions on how to fix this. The
drive is now a primary slave and unreadable.

YOur Master Boot File/Record for your hard drive is
corrupt. This is the file that holds all the info to
allow your machine to boot up. The only true way to fix
this problem is to reformat the hard drive. If the
master boot record area to the hard drive is bad then you
need to throw the drive away. In the future you need to
develope and consistantly use a backup system for all
your data files so that if this happens you will not lose
data.
