Failed auto-sync to time servers

A Thespian

I am unable to update my computer time using the internet time tab of the
time adjust window.
An unspecified error is always returned.
Having looked at other posts I have tried several time servers and have
looked at firewall and AV settings to see if ports or url are blocked but
can find none. The ISP has a firewall as well but they say it would not
block this feature.
I feel sure updating was working at one time.
I am using XP Home SP2
Can anybody suggest the areas I should check to resolve the issue?
I can't pretend it's a burning issue as if necessary I would alter the
clock occasionally manually. It is more of an irritation.

I am having the same problem, as a more recent thread indicates. The replies
so far have not been helpful. I also downloaded "Socket Watch" to see if it
could work around the problem. It couldn't. Changing the time servers
doesn't seem to help. I believe I have blocked something inadvertently, but
have no idea what.

If you are using a router firewall you have to set up port forwarding for
UDP 123 to enable your clock to sync with the time servers.

This doesn't work here. I get the same unspecified error if I try to update
the system clock via Control Panel => Date and Time => Internet Time Tab

I have two other programs here that are capable of querying time servers,
and they have no problem accessing the services and updating the system
clock.

Try unblocking network time protocol (NTP). You should be able to synchronize
your clock if you switch to Windows Firewall.
