Hi,

can I scan the software for my mobile with F-Prot prior to installing it on
the phone and rest assured F-Prot finds mobile specific virii/trojans?

I'm using a Series 60 Symbian phone (Nokia 6630)

THX for your help!

I thought it was F-Secure, Kaspersky and Simworks that made symbian OS
antivirus. I didn't think that F-Prot.

you're misreading his question... he wants to know if f-prot can detect
symbian malware, not if f-prot makes a product that can run on symbian
platforms... he wants to scan software before it gets onto his phone...

i don't have an answer to that question... my guess is that yes, it's
probably reasonable to expect that f-prot (for windows or whatever)
would be able to detect symbian malware in software that resides on
one's hard drive... but that's only a guess...

No, I didn't misread. I thought he was trying to scan the .sis file on
his mobile with his mobile virus scanner. I misinterpreted his
intentions.

Sorry, my first question was unclear.

Kurt got it right - I want to scan the files on my PC (Windows XP) before I
install them on the phone. Maybe someone who knows about it can help.

ummm - he did specify that he wanted to scan the software *prior* to
installing it on his phone...

maybe it's just me, but in my experience with mobile devices the
software is usually on the pc prior to installation on the device (of
course, my only experience here is with a dell axim x5, which is an
entirely different platform)...

i would suggest going directly to the source and ask the folks at frisk
software international whether their product can do what you're talking
about... customer service should have an answer...

Yes, you can copy the .sis files to your phone without installing
them.

Yeah, what about downloading directly to the device

copy from where?

the file may have resided in any number of places before it got
installed... at some point in time between when you get the file and
when you install it, it's quite likely that it will have resided on
your pc's hard disk..
Yeah, what about downloading directly to the device

that usually requires that the user be technically inclined - most
consumers go for the pc-based install wizard approach to installing
software on their mobile devices...
