i have recently installed macromedia fireworks and it has made itself the
default for opening .jpg files.

i have used 'folder options' to specify that .jpg's open in windows picture
viewer but the icons are still displayed as if they are fireworks files
which is very annoying and there is no way that i can see to stop fireworks
from stealing these icons and making them its own.

any ideas???

Most applications have a tools, options, preferences menu. It is in
these that file associations can be edited.
