Im in the IT field and ive ran in to this problem twice in the last weekwith
different PCs....XP boots up to a black screen. Over and over, F1 setup is
not responding, F8 Restore/Last Known Good Configuration responded finally,
safemode - unreachable.
The PC was restarted at least 10 times...hanging on the black
screen...several listed missing or corrupted files, including several system
files....BIOS options were not accessible but finally we were able to boot
from a Norton System Works 2003 CD to run WinDoctor and fix the issues...my
question is basically what type of behavior could lead to such action with
the disk/OS/motherboard. Just seems odd to me because ive ran into twice in
the past few days......

Spyware, adware, viruses. Those are the main culprits of behavior of that
nature.

People using registry cleaners could cause such a problem!
