Extreme delays when using Remote Desktop w/Vista.

Ok, I give -- I'm stumped.

I have a fresh install of Windows Vista Business edition on my laptop.
It's fully patched. The laptop has an AMD Turion 64 and a gig of memory
-- plenty of power.

When I set up a remote session to a box NOT on my local LAN segment, the
connection is so slow it often times out. First thought to come to mind
-- networking issue with the firewall. Thing is, this is only occurring
on my Vista based laptop; XP and Win2K3 boxes do NOT experience the issue.

The laptop is running Vista, Outlook 2007, McAfee (w/o firewall
protection) and Windows Defender. Windows Firewall is enabled. I've
closed out McAfee and disabled Windows Defender with no change.

This REALLY has me scratching my head. It's clearly tied to something
on this box but I can't fathom what or why.

Any suggestions?
