I have a Rar archive that has inside of it about 43 smaller rar files
listed as ".rar01" up to .rar43. In order to extract this to a folder
(or cd image), do I have to click on and extract each of the 43 rar
files separately? Please, can someone tell me how to extract this to a
folder without data missing from it.

Double-click on the first one only. You didn't say which program you're
using, but here's one for you in case you don't have one yet:

Iceows: http://www.iceows.com/HomePageUS.html

I have used this program to open .rar files for a couple of years now.
It seems to be far more reliable than most others.
