Extracting Icons

I tried three other rippers and none of them show icons in the
ihearres.dll file. However, when I "Change Icon" and browse to that
file, all the icons I want show up. This is a strange one. All I can
think of is that ihearres.dll somehow points to some other file not in
Program Files. Unless you have any other ideas, I'm about to give up -
even though I want those particular icons very much. I've used them
for many years.

Give me an address and I'll send all 400 of them to you in a zip file.

Thanks very much!!! You can use (e-mail address removed). If you don't mind
me asking, how did you get them?

Opps!! I count 612 icons that I have been able to extract and the ones
I get from ihearres.dll (on the XP machine) would add to that figure.
One particular icon I have not been able to obtain spells out the word
"DATA." That might help you if you decide to continue helping me. In
any case, I appreciate the time you've spent already.

The usual way...

1. download the file

2. Open file (I used MicroAngelo but any similar would do)

3. Extract the 400 icons (I used MicroAngelo but any similar would do)

4. Zip up the icons

5. Send to you

BTW, icons generally have several formats included within the file...16x16
for small, 32x32 for large; they can also vary by color depth...16 color,
256 colors, "true" color, etc. The few icons I looked at only have a 32x32,
16 color format; normally, that is usually no problem as the OS will just
extrapolate the size needed from what is there, don't know about Vista. If
you have an icon editor you should be able to add any format you need or
want by using the existing one as a template; some hand work on the result
may be necessary.

I can't thank you enough - the icons I've been trying to get are all
there. I had googled ihearres.dll and downloaded that file - then used
Icon Ripper which also showed no icons in that file. Thanks
again!!!!!!!!!!

Glad to help. You might want to replace Icon Ripper with something else.
This is good...
