Extra long boot to XP Pro

D

DrJoel

In the last month XP Pro boots extremely slow. I have done the following
to remedy it.
1. Ran Spywear scans using all the recommended software and nothing was
found.
2. Ran McAfee virus scan and spywear scan
3. Ran Defrag on drives
4. removed startup programs not needed
5. defrag registry
5. used a registry cleaner

Any ideas how to fix this. In the beginning of boot after windows splash
screen there is a black screen for 35 seconds then windows password
screen shows. Then after password I get a solid blue screen (My
background color) with an active cursor for 20 seconds. Then the icons
on desktop appear with no pictures, and the pictures appear very slow
and it takes another 25 seconds and startup programs start loading.

Thanks.

there is a freeware at
Microsoft.com called autoruns.

it may reveal what is causing
the delay.

to use it, check a line item
that you want disabled then
double click the filename and
you will see that key disabled.

other tools are the windows
boot menu option to log. Use
f8 to see the options.

another is here

No luck with anything. I wanted to install Bootvis which I hear works.
But from a fresh start of windows I try to install and it says that
another installation of bootvis is in progress. I am at a loss.

maybe these will be of help:

http://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US&q=Bootvis

i am a bit surprised that autoruns did
reveal that "running" process. did you try
all the tabs for that program name and
did you check the menu option to
see those processes running under
another user account, maybe the admin
account?
