when i write my dvd files, they are being written to another partion
(D) of the only installled HDD ( where windows xp is on partion C).

so what would be the fastest method for reading/writing -
1. keeping the D pation as a read/write area
or
2. install an extra internal drive as a slave on my primary IDE (using
ultra DMA)

Colin:
Both ways will work as you have discovered. I prefer to have a separate HD
that has my operating system on it and a separate HD to hold all my personal
files, especially all the DVD stuff I use. I do a lot of video editing and do
that on the slave drive. I have tried both ways myself and find that it's
faster for me to have the separate drive (on the primary side as a slave) and
then have my DVD/RW and
CD-R drives on the secondary side.

Another thing that might help some day if you ever loose your primary HD,
you won't loose the stuff on your slave drive. Just a little safety valve.

This is only my personal suggestion and opinion, not necessarly what someone
else would prefer.

Redwagon..........
