Extra Firewall Program

Is the firewall that comes with Windows XP sufficent or
should I actually buy another firewall (i.e. zone alarm,
norton, mcafee, etc.)

I've heard several say the XP firewall is not very good. I use Zone Alarm's
free version on my desktop and also my laptop. It has done very well by me.

The XP firewall is strictly an inbound firewall - it will prevent anyone
from the outside from gaining unwanted access to your system. However, it
doesn't work if you have already let someone in (loading a backdoor or
trojan program) since the program is already inside the firewall. If this
worries you then you may want a third-party firewall to block both
directions.
