extra admin folders

I have three ADMINISTRATOR folders in my D&S\user folder
ADMINISTRATOR
ADMINISTRATOR.computer name
ADMINISTRATOR.computer name.000

the last one is currently being updated.

How can I clean this up so I only have one?????????

These folders are created when you connect to a domain.
Deleting would set the user(Admin accounts) settings to default.

do i just delete both the admin...comp name... folders
or do I need to move the stuff in the ....000 folder to ADMINISTRATOR
since that is the one with the latest files??????

BTW, I am not on a domain - never was..

Hi Bill,

It could be damaged profiles, or a Windows reinstall, which caused the
new ones to be created. Usually Administrator was the only one, then
the one with the computer name appended, then the 3rd one currently in use.

Just move whatever data is needed out of the other two profiles and then
rename the first two first folders (place a .old at the end). Reboot
and see if you can log in to Administrator okay. If so, then delete the
first two. I would create a backup profile with Admin rights before
this, to be sure you can access everything properly, unless you have
your own profile with admin rights (you should have one, not using the
Administrator account for everyday use).

Also, your reply at the top states that the profile with 000 is the one
currently in use. You would NOT move data from that profile into the
original Administrator profile, as that one appears to no longer be used.

We don't need reg entries to see what's going on. The date of the
ntuser.ini file in each profile will tell us the last time each one was
used. I would just make sure any files you need that might be in either
of the other two (not 000 ones) are moved out of those profiles. Rename
them for a while like I suggested, then after you're sure everything is
working properly, then delete them.

My point was if I renamed the reg values to ADMINISTRATOR and made the
folder ADMINISTRATOR the active one(with the files from the .000
folder, that would make it like it was originally.

BTW, I am not on a domain - never was..

Do you regularly log on with the account called "Administrator"? If so, you
should know that best practice is not to, but rather to create an account
called, say, "Bill", with Administrator rights if you like (many would say
not) and use that for day to day work.

If you do that, you'd want to trawl through all thee Administrator.*
accounts for data (docs, downloads, favourites, e-mails etc) and transfer
them over.
