Why do I have lots of LocalService directories in Doc and Settings

I was about to back up my C drive, so thought I would clear out some of the
dross that usually appears in the Temp folder of the users' directories in
Documents and Settings.

What surprised me is that I have 4 folders called:
LocalService
LocalService.NT AUTHORITY.000
LocalService.NT AUTHORITY.001
LocalService.NT AUTHORITY.002

First, what on earth are they and why are there 4 of them? I don't remember
them being there before.
This raises the following questions:

1) Should I just leave them alone?
2) Are they the result of something going wrong?
3) Should I delete any of them?

I also have the same problem with the administrator account.
This has
administrator
Administrator.MyPC
Administrator.MyPC.000

The same questions apply.

TIA

Sounds like you might have had profile corruption problems or profile
permission problems at one time or another.

Which profile are you now using? Are you using the built-in
Admninistrator Account for your regular daily activities? Enter
%userprofile% in the run box or issue the SET command at the command
prompt to see which profile you are using.

No, I am not using the built in Administrator account. I should have also
stated that I am using WinXP Home SP2 with all security updates applied.

I have one admin privilege account (mine) and 3 limited user accounts (for
my family). I have never even logged into the administrator account.

I have never had any problems (to my knowledge) regarding access problems
anywhere or permission problems.
