External USB HD

1. Can you install Vista on external USB HD ? ( It let you choose such drive
) ?
2. Improvment in Vista needed to better support external HDD:
To increase my computer performance I put "temporary files" on my
external HDD ( Decreasing the load on my main HD )
I have done so using the following technics:
1. Set the location of Internet file cache to the external HD.
2. Set the %TEMP% %TMP% of both system and user to the external HD.

This soltion requir some improvment from the OS:
Having alternative , default location on the primary partition in which
the OS is
installed. Having that will enable me to detach the external USB drive
without
having problems with applications.

To correct myself:
I said:
Having alternative , default location on the primary partition in which
the OS is

It should be:
Having alternative , default location for the "temp" file which is used when
the user setting does not works. Such default location should be on the same
primary partition in which the OS is

No. You can to an external SATA drive by using a SATA pass-through
connector to the mobo.
