External hard drive not working

I have been using a Maxtor USB personal storage external
drive 3000LE for my backups. Using this on 98SE for quite
a while. Recently updated to XP and although the drive
shows in device manager I cannot connect to it for backup.
Have checked Maxtors site but could not find a reference
for running this on XP. Did find on the compatibility
list that it should run on XP " I am lost"

Does Maxtor have a driver on their site Specifically for XP? If so, try
installing it.

Thanks for the fast reply, I did check their websit but
could only see drivers for Win 98.

How does it show up in Administrative tools >> Disk management?
Does it show up in windows explorer?

Hi Frank, checked as per your info. Could not find it in
theAdmi Tools/storage/Disk management/ Disk not shown. It
does show up in both Explorer and Device Manager.
