external hard drive folders

I just purchased a 160GB Maxtor external hard drive. I would like to move
some of my beefier folders such as "my music" over to it and make them
private since my computer is set up as multi user. For some reason I cannot
figure out how to accomplish this. The "make private" box in the properties
portion of my new 'F' drive folder isn't available to check. What am I doing
wrong? HELP!

Did you format the Maxtor with NTFS?

No, just plug and play...

Look at the properties of the hd; if "File System" is not NTFS, you
won't have that option. I'm no expert on the subject, but I believe
you'll have to format the hd with NTFS. That will cause you to lose ALL
data on the hd. Make sure you've selected the correct hd, right-click,
and there's an option to Format. I suspect you'll be given the option
then to format as NTFS.
