I have a Sarotech portable hard disk drive which worked
just fine. I had to disconnect it for some time. When I
re connected it Windows did not recognized it either with
a firewire connexion or with a USB connexion. I sended
the hard disk to the after-sale service and it came back
with a positive check. The technician told me that maybe
an update of Windows could have modified the capacity of
Windows XP to recognize this type of device. I went on
the microsoft site and updated anything I could but
nothing worked.
Anyone ever had this kind of problem and could help ?
Thanks,
Bernard

Check the device manager to see if any problems are shown
with USB and Firewire (IEEE 1394). Even if no problems
show, remove the USB and Firewire hubs with device manager
and reboot, that should re-enable the hubs as plug and play
detects them again.
Does the external drive require both a data cable connection
and a power supply? Make sure the external power supply you
are using is working by testing it with a volt meter.
