External Drives

I am having trouble with some external drives. I am using XP. I the drive
that was hooked up with USB started getting write errors and the system would
freeze up unless I turned it off. Sometimes it would work fine.

I replaced the drive with a new firewire frive but get the same problem. My
other external drives work fine. Any ideas?

An idea that works most of the time is to turn off thet computer
and then reboot it. After the new start, connect the external drives.
