External Device

I am using an external disk storage with my Desktop device for back-up for
more than a year without any problem.
I recently tried to Plug that device to my Laptop to download some file from
the Laptop. Device Manager says every thing is fine. Whereas, I do not see
the device in "My Computer" I have gone through everything without luck.
I connected the device back to my Desktop - now I do not see the Device even
though Device Manager says the system is OK.

I have tried swirching ports and the result was the same. What should I do
now?

Thanks.

I did that. Occationally, the drive did not boot when I stated the computer.
I use this external drive for my Back-up. Re-booting solved the problem. I
have un-installed the drive and re-installed - no change. In the Devise
Manager the drive shows up in 0 position. Normally, Device Manager shows Make
and Model no of the Device. Now it states Disk. The following infor now shows
up:
"Description Disk drive
Manufacturer (Standard disk drives)
Model Disk drive
Bytes/Sector 512
Media Loaded Yes
Media Type Fixed hard disk media

SCSI Bus Not Available
SCSI Logical Unit Not Available

Total Tracks 6,321,960

First thing I would do is reboot one or the other with the disk connected - if
there is some fault there, I am sure MS would try to install.
Thereafter try the other - it does happen from time to time and in particular if
you have disconnected without the usual signals to the computer in the right
side of the taskbar.
