After four years of running XP Home Edition on my computer I was beginning to
have a number of issues with the XP registry. In order to resolve them I
would need to reformat the hard drive and re-install XP. Before doing this I
backed up all of my files on my external hard drive. Because I was concerned
about loosing my email files I did a backup, also did a files and settings
transfer and saved my Outlook folder. each separately. Before the
reformating started I checked to make sure that the Outlook files on the
external hard drive contained all of my email folders...which each did. I
then proceeded with the reformat, re-installed XP, downloaded all of the
updates including service pack 2 and re-installed my virus software. I also
re-installed Works Suite. I then activated the Files and Setting transfer
Wizard, using my files on the external drive as the source. Everything
seemed to be going well until well into the transfer when the whole process
stopped and the computer froze. After re-booting I found that my settlings
for Explorer and the block sender list in Express had transfered but none of
the other Express folders had. When I checked the Express files on the
external drive the folders tha I had saved appeared to be missing. Next I
tried the to recover the Express folders by running backup. Once again the
end result was that all of the settings for Explorer and the old block sender
list for Express transfered but none of the other Express folders did. I
have subsequently run Files and Settings transfer three times and the results
are the same as the first attempt...it runs to a certain point and then the
computer freezes. I beleive that all of the original Express folders, the
address book information etc are lurking somewhere on the external drive. Is
there a way that I can find them and get them back into the re-installed
Outlook on my internal hard drive.
