I am experiencing difficulty in exporting Windows Mail messages from my home
computer to my Exchange Server at work. When I originally setup Windows mail,
I neglected to check the "Save a copy of messages on the server" button.
Therefore, all the messages in my Inbox at work were transferred to my Window
Mail on my home computer, and are no longer in my work inbox.
I need to somehow get them back to the work inbox, but they are a different
format in Windows Mail than Outlook 2007. I tried to export them from Windows
Mail to Exchange Server, but I get an error message saying "failed to
initialize MAPI".
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

That message means you don't have a MAPI client (a round about way of saying
Outlook) installed. Outlook must be present. The alternative, since you're
dealing with an Exchange Server, is to re-configure your Exchange POP3
account in Windows Mail as an IMAP account. When you do this, you can
simply drag your messages from your local folders back to the Exchange
Server:

I am having this same problem but I do have Microsoft Outlook installed. In
terms of doing the alternative mentioned below, what steps would I need to
take to do that? Any thoughts?

Greg,
Did you ever get an answer on your question below? I have windows mail now,
and am trying to convert to Outlook. I converted my contacts but my mail
file export will not execute and says there's a MAPI error. But I have
outlook installed and working.

Peter,
So why does the windows mail file allow you to choose exchange format then
give an error? Makes no sense. Other posts on this site say it's possible
with a MAPI client.
Thx,
Jay

You can go directly to Outlook with it but not to Exchange. You need to set it up in
Outlook first then have it go to Exchange. But not directly from Windows Mail to
Exchange

Do you have OL and Exchange installed and if you do which version 03 or 07
