Exporting Selectively from Contacts

Outlook 2002-2003. I want to export my contacts so that others may import
them. However, I only want to export a portion (and hence only have a
portion imported by others). Is there a way to specify "categories" that I
want exported? Each of my contacts has a category specified in their record.
I only want to export certain categories (which will not include my
"personal" category). Thanks for the help.

Incidently, if there is a way to do this programmatically (VBA for Outlook),
I would be happy to know that as well.

First, DON'T EXPORT.

Here's what you do. In Outlook, click File>New>Outlook Data File. (If you
have OL 2003 nd the recipient has 2002, also choose Outlook 97-2002 Personal
Folders File (.pst)). Browse to where you want the new PST (or accept the
default). Name the new PST (or accept the default). Click OK. This will
add a PST to your Folder List view. Right-click the new PST and choose New
Folder. Name the new folder ("Contacts" is a good choice) and choose
"Contact Items" from the "Folder contains" drop-down. Click OK. Open your
existing Contacts folder and choose View>Arrange By>Current View>By Category
(or View>Current View>By Category, depending on version). Select all the
contacts in the category you wish to transfer. Right-click and choose Copy.
Specify the Contacts folder in the new PST as the destination. Click OK.

When the copy completes, verify that the new Contacts folder contains the
items you want and then right-click on the root of the PST and choose Close.
Close Outlook. Transfer the PST you created by whatever means is convenient
to the recipient. You can even mail it by renaming it to ".psx" or
something and have them rename it back after they receive it. Once they
have it, they can start Outlook and click File>Open>Outlook Data File,
browse to the PST, select it, and click OK. They'll then have access to the
contents of the Contacts folder you created for them. They can copy its
contents to their own Contacts folder.
