Exporting Outlook 2003 files

I've been trying to export calendar and contacts files from my desktop to my
laptop. When I run the wizard in the desktop version of Outlook, the only
options offered for export are .csv for comma seperated values file, or .txt
for a tab seperated file. But when I go to import a file, the laptop wants a
..vcf file for vcards, or a .vcs file the calendar.

What am I missing?

You are missing the fact that exporting and importing are used for
converting your Outlook data to a different format.
You have no need to do that. You are moving data from one installation of
Outlook to another, right? You have no need to convert your data to another
format. I suspect you'd rather not lose data along the way, right?
Just copy your Outlook data file and open it in the other installation to
transfer your data.
The file you need is your Personal Folders file (*.pst) It's where all the
mail, calendar, contacts etc are stored.
