Exporting from Netscape 7.1 to Outlook

Hello dear newsgroup participants,

I have following question:
Is it possible to export from Netscape 7.1 to Outlook directly without
any additional commercial software? What is meant with directly?
I know that it is possible to some extent to export mailbox using
some transitive relation between Outlook, Netscape, Eudora or
between Outlook, INAP server and Netscape but I do not know
whether these ways were succesful and I would prefer to do
it without intermidiary steps. Is the process of exporting
from Netscape 7.1 to Outlook described somewhere, so that
one can follow the description and then come, hopefully
relatively quickly, to success?

No is the answer. You HAVE to use either Eudora (not recommended because of
the way Eudora treats attachments) or Netscape 4.x

Hello Gordon,
thank you for the answer. But for this to work Netscape 4 must be
forwards compatible (i.e. it needs to be able to import from Netscape
7.1 to its mailbox format because the sequence as I see it then looks
like this :

Netscape 7.1 Import Netscape 4 Import Outlook
Mailbox =====================> Mailbox ===================>

What I do not understand is then how Netscape4 is going to import
something which was defined after it was written or do I misinterpret
something?

Both versions of Netscape use essentially the same format for their mail
store, with the later version having more information in the store. You
need to transfer to a Netscape 4 store just that information it will like,
leaving the 7-specific data alone. See
