Exporting from Access 2007 to 2000

Hi,
I have been developing a database in Access 2003, and recently upgraded to
2007. My work computers are 2000. Exporting from 2003 - 2000 has been no
problem.

But if I try to export 2007 - 2000 and view on a 2000 system, the database
won't open. I get an error, 'Cannot open the database window', and 'Try
upgrading to a later version of Internet Explorer'.

I have done this (IE7 running on Windows Server 2003 SP2) yet still get the
same error. In fact, Access hangs and has to be terminated in the task
manager.

Can anyone help? Until such time the 2007 runtime is available I am
essentially shot, and will have to revert to the 2003 version for development.

Thanks

If you knew you were going to use the db in an earlier version of Access why
didn't you develop in compatibility mode. That way you could have used in in
earlier versions as well. If you aren't going to use the full functionality
yet you don't have to convert to 2007. So my advice would be work in
comp.mode.

Maurice,

Thanks for the thoughts.

My intent was to use 2007 for some development until the runtime was
available, and upgrade the work versions with this. I don't have the money to
do blanket upgrades, and using as late a version as possible for development
struck me as logical.

Compatibility mode sounds good but I can't find any references to this in
help. Can you offer more here?

Regardless, there still remains the issue of why a db exported from 2007 >>
2000 shouldn't at least open the database window. I have used nothing that is
2007 specific (That I am aware), and upgraded IE in accordance with the MS
error.

Thanks

"using as late a version as possible for development struck me as logical" is,
as Mister Spock used to say, quite illogical! Regardless of the program
involved, if you're going to be using multiple versions the logical thing to
do is develop using the lowest common denominator!

Versions 2000 and 2003 cannot open 2007 databases saved in the new ACCDB
format, as the format didn't even exist at the time they were developed.
Access 2007 databases, however, can be saved in the older 2000/2003 format,
which then allows them to opened by these versions.

When opening the older version of the database in 2007 it will show in the
titlebar that you are working in compatibility mode (to the version it came
from). But I have to agree to the other posting here that it is wise to
develop in the version you are still deploying in.

Thanks Maurice and ??

I'll change back to an earlier version until such time I upgrade work pc's.

I understand 2007 can't be opened in 2000 - I am saving as a 2000 version,
and this is when I get the error originally posted, 'Can't open the db
window', with 'Upgrade to a later version of IE', plus hangs Access, when
attempted to be run.

Appreciated.
