2007 wants to repair 2000 format database

Hi,
I have a client who has a 2000 format database. It runs fine in 2000
and in 2003. 2007 opens the database but when a report is run, 2007
thinks there is a problem and wants to create a backup and do a repair
(and report it). I have walked through the code to see where it is
bombing at. It seems to choke and gag after the fifth time it's run
through a line of code that sets a value. the particular function is
referenced in a query, I believe. At least that is the best I can
figure since it does not appear in the on open event of the report and
yet it is jumping to that module when going through what is coded in
the open event of the report.
I've even attempting pulling the objects into a clean 2000 format
database using 2007 plus creating a 2007 version by importing into one
saved as a 2007 version. Still, no luck.
Any ideas on how I can get around that?
Debug, compact & repair have all been done to no avail.

Any chance the db could be re-compiled (and compacted & repaired) using the
Access 2000 application? Before converting to Access 2007?

Do you think that will help much? I do still have Acc2k installed on
my computer (A2k7 is on a different box).

I've noticed that uncompiled (earlier version) applications can sometimes
fail in strange ways when imported (apparently successfully) into newer
versions. If this were mine I'd give it a try...
