Hi,
I had the same problem when I was trying to export my contacts folder as a
..CSV file so I could transfer them to another email program. I found out
from searching the web for a while that my email profile was probably
corrupted. I created a new one and deleted the old one, and that fixed the
problem. There may be experts out there who can shorten this process, so
please feel free to add input.
Here’s what I did:
Write down your current email profile from Outlook:
1) Go to Tools > Email Accounts.
2) Check “View or change existing email accounts†and Click “Next.â€
3)Write down the folder that is indicated under the “Deliver new email to
the following location†(mine was “Personal Foldersâ€)
4) Click the “Change†button and write down all the settings that you
currently use to connect to your email server (name, email address, incoming
server, outgoing server, username, etc.-these are the settings you get from
your internet service provider for email access). I went into the “More
Settings†button and wrote down all the settings I found there under each of
the tabs, but found they didn’t change when I eventually set up the new
profile.
5) Click “Cancel.â€
Set up a new email profile (You might be able to use the “Copy†button on
the “Mail†window that comes up here to copy your current profile, but I
didn’t try that-it might be worth a shot to avoid writing all your settings
down. I’m just not sure if it would also copy whatever was corrupting the
file to begin with):
1) Start > Control Panel > Mail
2) Click “Show Profiles†in the dialog box that pops up
3) Click “Add.†(You should see a profile already there, mine was “Outlookâ€)
4) Type a new name for the profile, i.e. “Outlook2â€. Click “OK.â€
5) Check “Add a new email account†and click “Next.â€
6) Check the type of email server that you use (provided by your internet
service provider)
7) Input the settings that you wrote down from before (mine was for a POP3
server, yours may be different).
8) You should get back to the Email accounts window. Next to the “Deliver
new email to the following location†field, click the “New Outlook Data
File†button and select the file “Outlook.pst.â€. Click “OK.â€
9) Click “OK†again in the “Personal Folders†window.
10) Click “Finish.â€
11) Go back to the “Mail†window and select the old profile. Click “Removeâ€
and then “Yes†to “Are you sure…?â€
12) Click “OK†in the “Mail†window.
Now go into Outlook and try to export the file to CSV as you were doing
previously. You should now have a list of your Outlook folders populating
the “select a folder to copy from†window and should be able to save your
calendar file as a .CSV. Good luck!
