Export from Access 97 to Excel 97 missing data in comments field

I am using Access 97, running a simple query on table
which contains comment fields with some text within the
comments fields.

When I go to export the simple query the resulting excel
spreadsheet is missing text in the comments fields.

Why does the text get cut off?

Is there anything I can do to correct this?

Office97 has a 255 character limit for memo fields.
This was fixed in 2000 and newer.
