My computer crashed and I lost my address book in Outlook 2002, how do I
export to save it so it doesn't happen again? I can't find it with .wab.

Wab files are for Outlook Express, not Outlook. Outlook store everything in
one pst file. Go to the Office Download website and download Outlook Backup
and use it to backup your Contacts folder or your whole pst folder. You can
also try to find your old pst file by using File, Open, Outlook Data File in
Outlook.

Try the following: Open outlook>File>Import and export>Export to file>Comma
separated....Windows>select contacts

Exporting to a different file format is a spectacularly bad idea for backing
up.
Even exporting to a PST file format is bad advice.
Just make a copy of the data file.

Interesting - including your comment about .pst files since from what I read
it is the recommended format for backing up Outlook data. Note at Microsoft
Support "How to back up, to restore, or to move Outlook 2002 data in outlook
2002 article 287070". A main advantage of the .pst format is the ease in
"importing" the data.

Outdated information.
Since exporting data no longer preserves PST file formats and loses data, it
is not recommended.

Sorry for the bad info you got! The Personal Address Book is named
mailbox.pab and found under your Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook. The .PST files contain your personal email and you
can point to as many files as you want and put them whereever you want (& of
course tell Outlook about them).

the address book is usually stored in the pst too (in the contact folder) -
the pab is old, outdated technology and no longer used by most people.

all you really need to do is find the pst and make a copy, not export it.
However, if you just need the contacts, it's usually easier to export them.

if you need help finding the files, see
