Hi all,

If you look at a file's Properties, there is a "Summary" tab with
room to put lots of good notes of your own and informative tips,
etc.. It -could- be a pretty handy feature, except that if you
should Copy a file with a Summary filled in, you get an error
message that not all of the files info can be copied, and by
experimentation I see it's the Summary information that doesn't
get copied.

CAN Explorer (or a Group Policy, whatever) be set so that the
Summary information will also copy along with the file at the
same time? If I'm not misaken, you'll also lose the Summary info
if you Move a file to another location, too. Makes sense, since
Move is basically a Copy/Delete operation.

So: HOW do you get the Summary information to go along with the
file? Or can it not be done?

IMO, it would be especially handy to be able to have the Summary
go with the file, especially in cases where you're archiving the
file for posterity, which means you probably won't remember what
it's all about "later" on! I suspect it's the latter, but ...
can't hurt to ask. <g>

TIA,

Pop

You lose the Summary information when you move a file from an NTFS format to
any other format, i.e. FAT format on a floppy or whatever CD format.

You may want to read the whole article...

[[FAT volumes support only the main, unnamed stream, so if you try to copy
or move Streamexample.doc to a FAT volume or floppy disk, you receive an
error message as shown in Figure 13.15. If you copy the file, all named data
streams and other attributes not supported by FAT are lost. ]]
