explorer windows will not close

IE seems to work a little slow, but the main problem is
the explorer windows will not close, can minimize but not
close, after having a few windows open, I access task
manager and the CPU is at 100% and IE is at fault. Task
manager will not even close the IE task open. The only
way out is to shut down the computer. Any suggestions?

There's a good possibility that this is being caused by a third-party
program (adware, spyware, parasite)
