Explorer will not work

HELP! I am unable to open IE6. I am on AOL (or I wouldn't be on at all) and when I try to open IE, my task bar disappears for a moment, then comes back-but no internet. I also tried opening control panel. Same thing happend. These are the only 2 things I hae tried to open so far. Please help! Thanks
