I have also noticed that when I try to delete or move a file in
explorer it puts the cpu at 100% and unless I stop and restart the
explorer in Task Manager it will stay at 100%
Is there a fix for this???

Thanks Dave. I used Trend and Symantec and the results were pc is
clean. I also have NAV 2003 running on my system. Also the norton
personal
firewall and I used Spybot, spysweeper and adaware before with the
same result. It appears pc is fine but it is this one avi file that
when I try to do anything with it in explorer even just run the cursor
over it the cpu shoots up to 100%. I cant do much of anything with it!

Ah. AVI can be a problem, because if you access one with Explorer it
goes in looking for additional info (like frame rate, resolution etc)
and can get in a loop. This seems to happen especially if the DivX
codec that came out after XP was used.

It may be best for people with a lot of these files to do without the
extra property info - Start - run - regedit.exe, open to

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler

highlight that and delete it

Thanks so very much Alex it worked like a charm!!!!
I can now even delete the avi file. I really dont understand why it
happened but it would never let me look at it or delete it!
Thank you so much!!!
