another internet explorer fix and now xp explorer crashes
even more. since micofloppy can't seem to release bugless
patches, i now have to do a major system restore, as
apparently one of these patches removed a few of my system
restore points (have large enough restore file size). no
viruse or spyware in my system, by the way. an alternate
operating system is starting to look more and more better.

I done all the most recent IE updates on many, many, computers with no probs
at all. Its not a buggy patch, its your computer that has probs. Sort those
out and updates and patches, in general, are always fine. Most likely is
spyware, adware, demoware, or crappy software that has been installed.

But he said he doesn't have any virus or spyware! Hmm.. wonder what he is
using to verify.

By all means, make the move to another operating system. Best of luck to you
and the participants in your next OS support newsgroup.

It is a known fact that some patches and updates alter
some system settings in the name of security. What you
have to do is learn where and how these settings are
altered. Frequently going into the control panel\add
remove programs list and then looking at the set programs
access and defaults helps. You should know by now that
System Restore is one of the most useless pieces of
programming found in the XP OS and is affected by
everything from system defragging to disk optimization
utilities. Turn it off and save disk space and cpu time.
Instead use the NTBackup which is not affected by any
maintenance you may do. If you have XP HE then it can be
installed off your disk and is found in the
valueadd\msft\ntbackup file. Keep smiling.

Yes xp runs different on every machine cause every machine has different
hardware, drivers, software, etc. If you put xp on 100% identical
machines(hardware and software) they will both run exactly the same. Thus,
this leads me to conclude it is what is on the computer or what the
computers is made of and not the upgrade patches.
I can honestly say, and you can say bull if you want, but it true, I have
not had a problem related to installing a windows update patch in years.
I've has many probs, but a windows update never directly caused the prob.
It's just a scap goat for someone when something goes wrong.
And BTW - boat ware? Come on get real. Patches and updates are an important
part of any operating system. All the other operating systems all require
patches and updates, all of them. And they don't even give you a windows
update like website, you have to find the patches/updates yourself. This is
just the way it is. This whole computing thing is in its infancy and their
are going to be growing pains for the next 20 years if not more. If you
can't handle it, then have someone else do it for you, or get out of
computing.

Don't know what he used, could be poorly written software or drivers as
well.
